EMI: The Great Recordings of the Century Collection - 218 CD Box Set

In 1998 EMI Classics launched The Great Recordings of the Century series, a showcase for the finest recordings from the company's enormous and unsurpassed back catalogue. The series was received with great critical and popular acclaim. The series features the greatest artists in the history of recorded music and includes recordings that are of immense historical and musical importance. All the recordings featured in the series have been re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios where the latest and finest technology (ART) has been used to refurbish the original tapes. The design of the series is highly distinctive featuring the original LP artwork. The lavish documentation for each title includes full recording information, newly commissioned and authoritative booklet essays by a distinguished roster of writers, who write insightfully about both the music and the recordings, many rare photographs taken at the recording sessions and full texts and translations of the sung texts, including the opera libretti. This magnificent series continues to grow in number of titles and now the first 150 titles are available in one collection. Several titles are multiple disc sets--the complete collection contains 218 discs. It makes a wonderful "instant library" for serious classical music lovers and for those just discovering this treasure-filled world.
