"Multi-natonal" usually conjures up images of vast, soulless companies with decisions made by a board of trustees. Lyra, the maker of some the finest phono cartridges, has a different take.Based in Tokyo with one American design engineer, one Japanese master craftsman and one Norwegian head of operations, they've made multi-national very personal.
Everything about a phono cartridge is by nature extremely small and thus demands microscopic attention to detail...often literally. A phono cartridge is one of two possible transducers in an audio system (the loudspeakers being the other). Here, mechanical energy changes to electrical. Given the size of every element of a phono cartridge, the design parameters and tolerances are critical. In just one small example, Lyra has evolved an improved suspension system based largely on their tapered dampers. It's just one of the advancements that allow Lyra cartridges to extract every detail and nuance of what's hiding in the tiny grooves of a record...music, and all of its emotion.
